Dr. Roussel is an educator with 38 years of experience in the classroom and in administration. Most recently, Dr. Roussel was the Superintendent of Schools for the Jefferson Parish Public School System (2003-2011). Before being named Superintendent in 2003, she served as Executive Director of Instruction (1999-2003), as a Principal, and in the classroom.

Dr. Roussel earned a Master of Arts Plus 30 in Curriculum and Instruction from The University of New Orleans in 1983, followed by her Ph. D. in Educational Administration in 1989. She has received numerous awards and honors throughout her career, including:

  • State Superintendent of the Year (2007)
  • State of Louisiana Executive Development 1997 Secondary School Principal of the Year
  • University of New Orleans & Human Development Award for Outstanding Community Service (2008)
  • Louisiana Technology Council Administrator of the Year (2008)
  • New Orleans City Business Woman of the Year Award (2006)
  • Cox Communications/Chamber of Commerce Excellence in Education Award (1997)
